Whew! August was a busy month for our Critical Home Repair program, but honestly, it was the kind of busy that fills your heart. When I look back at everything we accomplished, I can’t help but smile at the way our team, volunteers, and partners came together to make such a difference in people’s lives.
Let me walk you through some of the highlights.
We started the month by visiting Ms. Reed, one of our rehab recipients from last year. She had some electrical issues, and we wanted to ensure her home stayed safe and sound. Checking in with past homeowners always feels special; it’s a reminder that our relationship doesn’t stop once a project is finished.
Then there was Ms. Miller. Earlier this summer, we had repaired her AC and railings, but after all the rain we’ve had, her ramp started showing wear. We went back out to get it back in shape. Small fixes like these really matter because what good is a ramp if it isn’t sturdy and safe?
Ms. Perry had been living with soft spots in her bathroom floor, which can be scary and dangerous. We replaced the flooring, and now she doesn’t have to worry about her footing when she’s just trying to move around her own home.
One of the coolest moments of the month was teaming up with OC Roofing. They stepped in to clean and seal Ms. Jones’ roof, and I just have to give them a big shoutout. Having partners like them means we can do more than we could alone, and they truly went above and beyond.
We also got to celebrate a special milestone with Ms. Patman. We completed her ramp, which means she can now enter her church safely. That one hit home for me…it’s not just about mobility; it’s about being able to stay connected with her community and faith.
And last but not least, we built a ramp for Ms. Minish, giving her safe and reliable access to her home. Watching her test it out for the first time was a reminder of why this work matters so much.
By the end of the month, I felt both tired and incredibly grateful. Every project told a story of resilience and community, and every homeowner reminded me why we do what we do.
So yes, August kept us on our toes but also filled our hearts. I can’t wait to see what impact we’ll make in the months ahead.
